What does the author mean by:
"There was nothing left for him to do in this life, nothing whatever. He had one single wish left, one sole pleasure; why not grant him that last solace until he died?"
-Monsieur know that his live won't long anymore. He just ask a one wishes. Give him freedom and peace for a while. He does not want to treat like he is nothing. He is human too, have own feeling. So, please do respect him! Stop limited him.

Which character did you like or dislike in this short story? Why?
-In this short story, I do not like the character of Simon. Simon is too limited about monsieur. He should understand what monsieur want, but he doesn't realize one thing that monsieur is not happy when he treat monsieur too much. monsieur is a human too. He have own right to enjoy his life.

Do you think he "I" is a male or female? Why do you think so?
-I think "I" is a male because his name is George. As we known, George is a name for a male.
